    Sustainability

The search for innovative sustainable product development and adoption of energy-saving measures are part of the daily "socially responsible" business practices by Engels brickworks.

Quality and sustainability are coherent. The product life-cycle is one of the most important aspects in relation to the actual impact on the environment. Through the centuries it is proven that clay products have a very long lifetime. This has a relationship with both the aesthetic and the technical properties.

    raw materials

The Dutch brick industry is very conscious of resource extraction and environment. Recently, from studies by research institute Deltares it is shown that clay is a self-renewable and therefore sustainable raw material. After the clay mining, the extraction is returned to nature where flora and fauna are able to develop unrestrained.

    Energy

Engels brickworks conformed to the multiyear agreement Energy Efficiency MJA-3 with the Ministry of Economic Affairs on reducing energy consumption and associated CO2 emissions.

Engels brickworks uses certified green electricity.

    Technique

For the recycling of rinse water and waste sand, dust extraction and purification of flue gasses the Engels brickworks use machines which comply with the European BREF which describes the state of the art plants for the ceramic industry. This allows Engels brickworks to meet the strict requirements related to substance in the workplace and greenhouse gasses.

    Working conditions

Engels brickworks has, as a family business, a lot of attention to the welfare of the workers. By the sector at European level made agreements on dust control systematically find a practical application in the workplace. Noise is reduced, machinesafety is guaranteed and dangerous human acts are mainly mechanized.
